Frequently Asked Questions

Should I have my old roof removed before the new one is installed?

At Ralph Burke Roofing we remove ALL old roofing before we install new roofing because it allows us to inspect the roof deck and make repairs as needed, it also allows the proper installation of drip edge (metal edging that is placed on outer edge of roof), roofing underpayments and flashings.

How Do I know if I need a new roof?

Conducting a visual inspection is the first step determining if you need a new roof; on the outside checking for cracked, broken or missing shingles and on the inside, checking for signs of leaking such as stains on the ceiling, walls etc. Call Ralph Burke Roofing to have a FREE inspection by one of our qualified professionals.

Can my roof be repaired?

Many times a roof can be repaired if the roof has a missing shingle, a small breach at the flashing etc. The age of your roof can be a factor in deciding whether to repair or replace. We suggest you contact us to conduct a FREE inspection to review issues you may be experiencing with your roof to provide an accurate diagnosis of the problem.

What is included in our NEW roofing quote?

For each new roof we include: ALL materials, ALL labor, stripping old roof off, clean up, hand nailing shingles and our 20yr. installation guarantee.

Why hand nail shingles rather than use a nail gun?

Although many contractors use a nail gun to attach shingles, we at Ralph Burke Roofing strongly believe in hand nailing to ensure that the shingle is properly affixed and that no breach has occurred in the shingle. Nail guns tend to penetrate shingles leaving gaps compromising the shingle whereas hand nailing takes more care with the product and ensures the integrity of each shingle leaving you with a more secure roof.

How long does it take to install a new roof?

Most new roofs take one to two days for a complete installation. Larger, more complex roofs can take up to three to four days.

Should I worry about ice dams?

Ice dams can be a big problem in our climate. For severe problems we can recommend solutions including the proper roofing materials, roof ventilation, and insulation. Low slope or flat roofs can especially problematic. We suggest you contact us to conduct a FREE inspection to review issues you may be experiencing to provide an accurate diagnosis of the problem.

Why does a roof need ventilation?

Ventilation helps remove the heat that builds up during the summer months and helps reduce moisture buildup in the attic. Lack of proper ventilation can cause anything from rotting, mold build up, ice dam build up to shingle damage. Schedule a FREE inspection with us to examine any issues you may be experiencing.

I have a flat roof – does it make a difference what materials I use?

Definitely. Low slope and flat roofs require different roofing materials such as rubber roofing rather than the traditional asphalt shingle.

Why are Gutters important?

Gutters control the flow of water off the roof. Gutters can prevent water on windows, doorways, walkways, erosion of landscaping and ice build-up in the winter months as well as divert water away from the home. Custom extruded seamless aluminum gutters can do the job; available in 15 colors that coordinate with your home’s design.

When should your gutters be inspected?

Gutters should be cleaned and inspected annually to ensure they are working properly, drains are clear etc. We recommend this service before the winter months set in. Schedule a FREE inspection with us to today!
